Albert Castiglia (pronounced "ka-STEEL-ya") is a powerhouse in modern blues rock, known for his fiery guitar work, soulful vocals, and unyielding dedication to the genre. Born in New York City in 1969 and raised in Miami, Castiglia's multicultural roots—Cuban and Italian—infuse his music with a rich tapestry of influences.
From Social Worker to Blues Virtuoso
Before his ascent in the blues world, Castiglia worked as a social services investigator for the state of Florida. His musical breakthrough came in 1996 when legendary harmonica player Junior Wells discovered him. Castiglia joined Wells' touring band as lead guitarist, a role he held until Wells' passing in 1998. This experience was a formative apprenticeship, immersing him in the heart of Chicago blues.
A Prolific Solo Career
Embarking on a solo journey, Castiglia released his debut album, Burn, in 2004. His discography showcases a blend of original compositions and reinterpretations of blues classics, reflecting his deep respect for the genre's traditions while injecting his unique flair.
